Full-Time Nannies
At Westside Nannies we believe that every family deserves an amazing nanny. Our candidate pool includes nannies with over 20 years of experience, recent college-graduates who are ready to assist with homework, and even former teachers who love to plan fun and educational activities. The background, experience, and personality of each nanny is unique but they all embody the qualities that to us, are most important – loyalty, honesty, dependability, and a true love of working with children.
Duties
Full-time nannies provide much more than general supervision. They work alongside parents, as a team, to ensure that the children in their care are happy, healthy, and thriving. The responsibilities of a full-time nanny vary depending on the household, but often include full care of the children (bathing, dressing, feeding), organizing fun, educational and age-appropriate activities and outings, engaging in creative play, and driving the children to and from school.
Schedules
Full-time nannies generally work between 40-60 hours per week. Schedules vary greatly depending on the family, their individual needs, and the level of travel and flexibility required. Some nannies work a traditional schedule of Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm while others join a team of caregivers working rotating shifts to provide 24-7 support. Our team of placement counselors will work with you to determine the schedule that would best suit your needs.
Rates
Our placement counselors will work closely with you to develop a competitive compensation package based upon your family’s needs. Rates for full-time nannies vary greatly depending on the nanny’s experience, the position duties, preferred schedule, and the level of travel and flexibility required in the role. Current rates for professional nannies generally range from $30-$40 per hour, but can exceed this based on education, specializations, experience, and job requirements. In addition to their wages most full-time nannies receive the following benefits: 2 weeks paid vacation, paid holidays/sick days, and a health insurance stipend.

Education
In our industry, experience and education can be represented in many different forms; from formal degrees to 30+ years of experience. We represent nannies who simply have a passion for working with children, and many have proven their desire to work in childcare through their academics.

Passion
For our nannies, childcare isn’t just a “job” - it’s a labor of love. Most of our candidates began their careers as neighborhood babysitters and camp counselors in high-school, pre-school teachers or part-time nannies in college, and are now professional nannies. Our nannies love their jobs, and we think that’s pretty cool.

Modern
Whether it’s texting you a picture of your little one at the park or setting up a Skype session to say goodnight to your child when you are out of town, Westside Nannies candidates are forward-thinking, aware, and tech savvy.

Character
We believe that a nanny’s moral and ethical character is just as important as what’s on her resume. Nannies are more than just caregivers - they are mentors and role models, and a direct reflection of your family’s values. We place an emphasis on recruiting candidates who display character traits such as loyalty, dependability, honesty, and respect.

Full-Time Nanny FAQs
Here are some of the questions we hear most from LA families considering a full-time nanny:
What does a full-time nanny actually do?
A full-time nanny is a professional childcare provider who works as a true partner to (and extension of) parents. Their day-to-day responsibilities vary by household but typically include everything related to the children and childcare, including but not limited to bathing, dressing, feeding, school drop-offs and pickups, activity planning, and lots of play. A full-time nanny is responsible for the logistics of each day, yes, but they are also trusted professionals who may support parents’ goals, from developmental milestones to introducing a second language to supporting education and beyond. Many full-time nannies also take on light child-related household tasks like tidying the kids' spaces, doing their laundry, and prepping their meals. Think of them as your go-to person for all things kid.
How many hours a week is considered "full-time"?
Full-time nannies generally work between 40 and 60 hours per week. Schedules vary depending on your family's lifestyle and needs and on the agreed-upon schedule between caregiver and family. Some positions follow a standard Monday through Friday, 9-to-5 setup, while others are more flexible or require occasional evenings, weekends, or travel. We'll work with you to figure out what makes the most sense for your household. Flexibility that fits your schedule is one of the perks of private in-home care.
How much does a full-time nanny cost in Los Angeles?
Rates for full-time nannies in LA typically range from $30 to $50 per hour, though they can go higher depending on the nanny's experience, education, specializations, and the specific demands of the role. Most full-time positions also include a standard benefits package: two weeks of paid vacation, paid holidays and sick days, and a health insurance stipend (optional).
What's the difference between a full-time nanny and a part-time nanny?
The main difference between a full-time nanny and a part-time nanny is hours and consistency. A full-time nanny is a dedicated, daily presence in your household, someone who really gets to know your children, your routines, and the way your family operates over the 40+ hours a week they spend on the job. A part-time nanny works fewer hours and/or fewer days per week. If your family needs reliable, ongoing support every day, a full-time nanny is usually the right fit.
What's the difference between a full-time nanny and a family assistant?
A full-time nanny's focus is the children, including their care, development, and daily needs. A family assistant takes on more of a management and administrative role and may handle things like scheduling for the whole family, errands, household organization, and personal assistance for parents. Some families need one, some need the other, and some need both (that’s where a hybrid nanny/family assistant comes in!).
Do I need a full-time nanny or a housekeeper?
If your main need is childcare, you need a nanny. If it's general cleaning and organization, you need a housekeeper. If you're looking for someone to handle a bit of both, a full-time nanny/housekeeper may be a great fit for you, as these professionals offer both childcare and cleaning services. It's worth talking through your specific needs with one of our placement counselors so we can point you in the right direction.
What qualifications do Westside Nannies candidates have?
All of our candidates go through our rigorous 10-Point NannyScreen™, and less than 4% of applicants become a part of our team of candidates. We require a minimum of three years of professional childcare experience and thoroughly verified references as a part of our vetting process. Beyond that, our team includes nannies with formal early childhood education backgrounds, former teachers, bilingual candidates, and specialists in areas like special needs care or infant development. Whatever you're looking for, chances are we can find you a perfect fit.
How long does the placement process take?
Every search is different, but most families are reviewing candidates within a week or two of completing their family application. The timeline can vary based on how specific your needs are, the schedule required, and current candidate availability. The more detail you give us upfront, the faster we can get you to the right match. We encourage families to begin their search six weeks before their ideal start date.
Can my full-time nanny travel with us?
Absolutely. Many of our nannies are open to travel and have experience accompanying families on trips. Travel expectations, compensation, and logistics are all things we'll help you nail down before you make a hire.
