A private family with an established household near Reno/Tahoe, Nevada, is seeking an exceptional, highly experienced Private Housekeeper. This is a permanent position, and the family is particularly interested in candidates with a strong record of longevity in previous roles who are looking for a stable, long-term commitment. The ideal candidate is a career housekeeper who takes real pride in maintaining a private home to a five-star standard and beyond. They understand private household service and are able to work quietly around a family while remaining discreet and unobtrusive. Candidates from a formal private household are preferred. Those with a luxury hospitality background are also welcome to apply if they can show a solid grasp of private service and can adapt to the discretion and flexibility a family home requires. The Housekeeper will be part of the household team, which includes nannies. There is no childcare in this role, but children are present in the home and the candidate must be comfortable with that.
LOCATION: Reno/Tahoe, Nevada – The home is in a fairly remote area near Reno, so candidates need to be comfortable living and working there (this is a live-out role) and must have their own reliable transportation. Local applicants are encouraged, but the family will consider non-local (US based) candidates (relocation assistance can be arranged).
START DATE: ASAP
SCHEDULE: Tuesday – Saturday, roughly 40 per week, with a typical day starting mid-morning and finishing in the early evening. Some flexibility is expected around the family’s calendar, entertaining and household needs, and the role will include some holidays.
COMPENSATION: $40–$50 per hour gross, depending on experience and background, as well as medical, dental and life insurance, a discretionary annual bonus, and relocation assistance for the right candidate.
Duties will include, though not be limited to:
- Expert care of fine furnishings, artwork, delicate materials, fine textiles and specialty surfaces
- Day-to-day cleaning of bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas, kitchens and service spaces, plus regular thorough deep cleaning
- Changing and making beds to an immaculate standard
- The family’s full laundry, including hand-washing and specialist garment care, with ironing and pressing done to a high standard
- Keeping wardrobes, closets, drawers and storage areas in beautiful order
- Setting tables, helping with formal and informal service, and clearing and resetting dining areas afterward
- Simple meal and snack preparation
- Keeping track of household supplies, assisting with inventories and restocking
- Supporting the systems that keep the home running smoothly
- Helping with occasional events and dinner parties
- Anticipating what the family needs and handling it discreetly
- Working well with the rest of the team and assisting with other tasks as they come up
Candidates should bring:
- A substantial background in housekeeping within high-end private residences, luxury hospitality or similarly exacting environments, and a history of working to the highest service standards
- A proven ability to stay in roles for the long term, along with strong, verifiable references
- Thorough knowledge of specialist cleaning methods and real expertise in handling fine textiles, delicate fabrics, art, luxury furnishings and specialty surfaces
- Excellent laundry, ironing and wardrobe-care skills
- Comfort with setting tables and serving at both formal and informal meals
- Strong organization and a meticulous eye for detail
- A proactive nature: able to see what needs to be done and get on with it without constant direction
- A feel for “invisible service,” reading a situation and adjusting as needed while remaining discreet and in the background
- The ability to work both independently and equally well as part of a team
- Ease around children and in a busy family home
- A polished, professional, discreet manner and complete respect for the family’s privacy and confidentiality
