A wonderful Santa Monica family is seeking a Part-Time, After School Nanny to become a trusted and engaging part of their 12-year-old son’s world. He is a bright, creative, funny, and incredibly personable 7th grader who loves soccer, art, music, reading, games, and just about any sport you can think of! He has ADHD and does best with someone who can keep him engaged, active, and supported while also giving him the independence and space that comes with being a tween. This is a family looking for someone who can truly connect with their son – think cool, responsible big-sister energy rather than another parent. The role will include after-school coverage, school pickup, getting him out and about, snack and dinner preparation, his laundry, grocery shopping, and light errands. Mom travels frequently for work, so there will also be approximately 8–10 weekends per year and occasional weekday overnights.
LOCATION: Santa Monica, CA
START DATE: Late October
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 12:00pm–6:00pm, plus approximately 8–10 weekends per year and occasional weekday overnights
COMPENSATION: $35-40/hour DOE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong experience with tween/teen age group
- Comfortable supporting a bright, active child with ADHD
- Comfortable using your personal vehicle while working
- Pet-friendly – family has two cats
- A passport is a wonderful bonus, though not required, as Dad lives in Europe – their former nanny occasionally travelled internationally with the child to accompany him to visit Dad (returning home after dropping him off).
- Swimming ability is a plus, though not required
The ideal nanny is creative, active, funny, dependable, and genuinely enjoys the company of older kids. Someone who can grab a soccer ball, suggest a new activity, engage in a great conversation, or simply hang out and play a game will thrive in this role. The family’s longtime nanny has been with them for 7 years and is now transitioning into a full-time career after graduating from LMU, so they deeply value the close relationship she has built with their son and are hoping to find someone who can become a similarly trusted and lasting presence in his life. If you’re an energetic, creative nanny who loves working with tweens and would be excited to become the trusted “big sister” this family is looking for, we’d love to hear from you! Apply today.
